The Downtown Canine Litter Campaign, developed by the Downtown Community Improvement District and the Downtown Residents Association, is designed to assist downtown dog owners in picking up after their pets.
The Downtown CID has created informational brochures that give an overview of the Canine Litter program, 25 "Scoop the Poop" doggie doo bag dispensers placed in highly dog populated areas, free keychain bag dispensers to distribute, a series of posters (for businesses and residential properties to post) and more.
Details:
According to a recent residential survey downtown has over 2,100 pet owners. It is the personal responsibility of all dog owners and
their guardians to pick up after their dogs in all areas of downtown. Our community has come together to motivate
downtown dog owners to be responsible and clean up after their dogs. Speak up when you see a lack of
responsibility. Come by the CID Guide
office at 720 Olive Street for brochures and free keychain bag dispensers to
respectfully offer to your friends.
It's Easy!
Bag dispensers have been placed in the public right-of-way
or attached to public trash cans within the area of downtown that
has the
highest dog population. These dispensers
are for public use. Click here to view dispenser locations.
It’s the Law
St. Louis City Ordinance number 66384 specifies in section
10.04.310 that every dog owner/guardian shall remove any feces left on any
sidewalk, gutter, street, park or other public or private area. Fines can range from $100.00 - $500.00 or up to 90 days in jail for the first
offense.
Downtown is our
neighborhood. Let's keep it clean, green and healthy.
Canine Litter:
- Pollutes
our water through storm water runoff
- Spreads
disease both to humans and other pets
- Detracts
from our neighborhood image
We need you to help keep our neighborhood clean.
