The St. Louis Cardinals, Cordish Company and the City of St. Louis have reached an agreement to move forward with the Ballpark Village development project.  Ballpark Village will be a transformation of the area north of the new Busch Stadium into a mixed-use development project featuring world-class entertainment, retail, new class A office space, great views of the downtown area and much more.

The estimated $300 million Phase One details include approximately 300,000 square feet of office space, 300,000 square feet of retail and the creation of 2,000 permanent jobs generating a projected $610 million return on investment to St. Louis .  Phase one may also include a hotel. The Cardinals and Cordish are expecting to begin construction early next year.  To read the complete details of the deal, click here.

Historic Hotel at St. Louis Union Station Gets New Name

In late 2008, the former 539-room Hyatt Regency Hotel at St. Louis Union Station will be re-branded as a full service Marriott Hotel.  The new Marriott St. Louis Union Station will be managed by an affiliate of Ocean Properties under a franchise agreement reached with Union Station ownership.

An additional $20 million will be invested over the next two years to bring the hotel into the Marriott brand.  Hotel rooms will feature plush bedding and bath linens, high-speed internet access, a large flat screen TV, a large well-lit work desk, comfortable ergonomic chairs and a coffee maker. Other hotel amenities include a business center, concierge services, valet parking and downtown shuttle service.

St. Louis Union Station originally opened in 1894 and served as the largest and busiest passenger rail terminal in the world. The hotel originally opened in 1895 as the Terminal Hotel that served much of the railroad personnel needs as they traveled from coast to coast. Today, it features more than 80 unique specialty shop, restaurants, and entertainment venues, a 539-room historic hotel, a lake, and a plaza for special events.

 Downtown Restaurant Week Returns

Twenty-four of downtown's finest dining establishments will offer a special dining promotion of three-course dinners for a fixed price of $25 per person, plus tip and tax during the 4th Annual Downtown St. Louis Restaurant Week.  The event is presented by Rosemount Estate Wineries and Lumiere Place Casino and Hotels and will be held August 11th thru 16th.

There are no passes to buy, coupons to carry or cards to punch. Patrons simply attend the participating restaurant of their choice and mention Downtown Restaurant Week. As part of the promotion, restaurants will also offer Restaurant Week specific Rosemount Estate wines for $7 per glass.

Downtown Restaurant Week patrons have the option of adding a $5 "Extra Helping" donation to their dining bill to help support the charity tie-in with Operation Food Search, the largest distributor of free food in the bi-state area helping to feed the impoverished. Over 15,000 people took part in last year's restaurant week and helped raise nearly $6000 for this cause.

Restaurant Week includes the following fine dining establishments: 400 Olive (Hilton Hotel), An American Place, Anthony's, Asia (Lumiere Place), Burger Bar (Lumiere Place), Carmine's Steak House, Charlie Gitto's, Clark Street Grill (Westin Hotel), The Drunken Fish, The Dubliner, F15teen, Harry's, House of Savoy (Lumiere Place), J. Buck's, Jake's Steaks, Joseph's, Kitchen K, Lombardo's Trattoria (Drury Union Station), Lucas Park Grille, Mahogany Grill (Omni Hotel), Mike Shannon's, Mosaic, Skybox Sports Grill, and Top of the Riverfront (Millennium Hotel).

The Downtown St. Louis Partnership and SYNERGY Productions LLC are presenting this year's event with sponsors Rosemount Estate Wineries and Lumiere Place Casino and Hotels.  For more information including menu choices, click here.

 Historic Tudor Building Completed

Tudor Development, LP ( a partnership consisting of Robert Wood, Pete Rothschild, Dan Holak and Tim Estepp) has invested $25 million into the conversion of the entire north side of the 1900 block of Washington Avenue into a vibrant mixed use property with the historic renovation of the Tudor Building.

The 104,820 square foot building was previously known as the Wrought Iron Range Company Building and had been vacant for close to twenty years. The project now has 64 residential loft units and 14 street level commercial retail spaces.

Lofts feature original brick interior walls, polished concrete floors, upgraded kitchen appliances, clean urban lines, and lots of light from the skylights and sun tunnels in each unit. Retail spaces feature tin ceilings that can be seen from the street through the clerestory windows along the renovated Washington Avenue streetscape.  The mixed use structure's distinctive stucco and Tudor-style exterior was carefully restored and the clay tiles roof was replaced to maintain its unique character.

PARIC Corp was the General Contractor and Klitzing Welsch the architect.  The property is managed by Robert Wood Realty Company, LLC. For apartment leasing information, contact Emily Lewis at 314.225.8007 and for commercial leasing contact Sara Hentz at 314.401.9136.

There will be a Grand Opening Block Party hosted by the developers and produced by Alive Magazine in the 1900 block of Washington Avenue, directly in front of the Tudor Building on Friday August 8th, 2008.  The event will feature tours of the property, local and state dignitaries as well as live music & entertainment. Food and beverage will be catered by neighborhood restaurant "F15teen".  Downtown Partnership members are invited to attend the ceremony and block party which starts at 4:30 pm.  To RSVP for the block party, click here.

 The 411 Building Under Construction

The long vacant Farm & Home Building, located at 411 North 10th street, is being converted to office and retail space by developer Loftworks.  The new building, named "The 411", will include 10,000 square feet of street level retail and five floors of office space at 10,000 square feet per floor.

The new $12.7 million project will be Gold level LEED certified with on-site green features including showers, bike racks recycling programs, green roof, grey water recycling, rainwater reuse, high efficiency heating and cooling, energy efficient thermal windows, refinished maple flooring, and all new finishes of sustainable materials and a car-share program.

Pre-leasing at The 411 has already begun with the signing of advertising firm NGAGE to take a full floor.  Project financing will be provided by Enterprise bank and US Bank will provide tax credit equity.  The project will also use tax increment financing. Construction will begin late summer. Developer Craig Heller of Loftworks is also known for projects such as The Syndicate, Ludwig Lofts and The Lofts @ 315.

ST. LOUIS BIKE WEEK - Information for Restaurants
The Tour of Missouri bike race is returning to St. Louis in September and your restaurant is invited to participate. To celebrate this popular international cycling event (Missouri's own Tour de France-style race), the Local Organizing Committee is planning a Bike Week event from September 7 - 14.

Restaurants are asked to place a Bike Week special on their menus -- either a cocktail or meal special -- or both, themed to biking.  (Example:  Banana Bike Breeze (a fruity cocktail), Gear Shift Grinder (sub sandwich), etc. Just use your imagination and have fun!

The specials will be promoted in a Bike Week brochure distributed through visitor centers and hotels AND on the Tour of Missouri's St. Louis web page.  A strong PR effort will also get the word out about Bike Week.

In addition, Art Dimensions will be asking St. Louis artists to produce wildly imaginative Art Bikes which can be displayed at participating restaurants. To participate, contact Nancy or Mary at Insight Marketing & Communications at 314-962-6400 or by clicking here.
