"Culinaria - A Schnucks Market"

The smashing of the champagne bottle inside the 9th street garage signified the ground breaking for the new Schnucks in downtown St. Louis.  The store, named Culinaria, will be approximately 21,000 square feet on the lower level and 6,300 on the top level.

Plans call for a strong emphasis on prepared foods, grab-n-go sandwiches, pizza slices and other popular lunch items. In addition to the basic grocery items and a pharmacy, Kaldi's Coffee and Benito's Gelato will be offered.  During the ground breaking ceremony, Scott Schnuck commented, "We've put our 70 years of experience into this new store, and every step of the way we have worked to remain respectful of the wants and needs of the downtown community".  The store will open Summer 2009.

Downtown Community Improvement District Updates

Perception & Use Survey Completed

The Downtown CID engaged a research company to provide a baseline assessment of discretionary (non-work) usage of Downtown St. Louis by residents of St. Louis City and seven contiguous counties on both sides of the river. Over 750 random telephone interviews were conducted representing proportionate samples from each of the included counties.

The survey examined perceptions of cleanliness, safety, parking and amenities; the desirability of downtown as a place to live and work; and the value of downtown to the region.  The survey was conducted in October 2008 and is one in a series of surveys that will track changes in usage and perception over time.  This will measure success in effecting real and perceived improvements to downtown.  To review the survey results, click here.
