Downtown's Newest Open Space Nearing Completion

The brightly lit Wing Lights, testing of the fountain, completion of the cloud and screen walls, and numerous concrete benches are just a few hints that the multi-purpose Old Post Office Plaza will soon be completed. When completed, the award-winning design will incorporate extensive landscaping and water features with a sculpture "Torso di Ikaro" by Artist Igor Mitoraj as its focal point. Development of The Plaza was identified as a key component of revitalization of the Old Post Office District in the 1999 Downtown Development Action Plan.

Funding for the project includes support from the Danforth Foundation, the US Bancorp Community Development Corporation, the St. Louis Brownsfields Cleanup Fund (via St. Louis Development Corporation) and the Gateway Foundation. The park is scheduled to open the first weekend in April. Grand Opening details coming soon.

The "Green" Clean Team is an extension of the Partnership's ongoing Litter Patrol Program. Employees are hired through the St. Patrick Center employment programs that help end homelessness through employment and permanent housing solutions.
